Vision & Master Plan
A City Designed for the Future of Humanity
Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) is Bhutan's bold answer to the world's most urgent challenges. Announced in December 2023 by His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, GMC spans 2,500 km² in southern Bhutan — a special administrative region built from scratch to harmonise economic growth, environmental stewardship, and human wellbeing.
Unlike conventional smart-city projects, GMC places mindfulness at its core. The city is designed not just for commerce and productivity, but for a new kind of life — one where the values of Bhutan's Gross National Happiness philosophy are embedded in every street, institution, and policy.
The location is strategic: bordering India's Assam state, GMC will serve as a gateway between South and Southeast Asia, with direct rail connectivity and a new international airport under development.
